Go Local

Go Local

Picnic STJuly 24, 2020

You may have heard the saying, “think global, act local”, makes you wonder how relevant it is today. At Picnic Street, we are more in the belief of “go local, support local”.

The local economy is reliant on money circulating and staying within the community. Economical circulation allows the creation of jobs for locals, therefore supporting the wider community. When you buy local, you are helping your local farmer, driver, butcher, groceryman, apprentice, business…etc.

Supporting local, allows for the growth of businesses and entrepreneurship locally, foreseeing the growth of a flourishing and healthy community. Along with the commercial development, you are indirectly supporting the environment by reducing your environmental footprint with minimal transportation and packaging requirements.

Recently local and state governments, even the Commonwealth has emphasised the importance of the local approach with the Queensland Governments “Go Local, Grow Local” initiative an example.

As Australia has been hit with back to back natural disasters with bushfires and floods across the nation, coupled with the unprecedented times due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it has never been so important to come together as a community and support each other.

Never has it been so important to think local and support local. Australian grown, Australian made and Australian owned is not just some buzz words anymore, it has become more and more important to make sure small to medium businesses survive these unprecedented times.

Small to medium businesses across every industry have been affected and are face-to-face with an unknown future. The birth of Picnic Street came from this reality, a way to be the bridge between the local business and wider community, allowing for everyone to assist Australians and contribute to the wellbeing of our society.

The good news is, you can do something for your local, from the comfort of your home. Simply by embracing what makes L’abruzzese, Sahara, Gippsland Jersey, My Berry and countless other Australian grown and owned business unique, and #staylocal #shoplocal #golocal
